Internet publications and trade show company Mecklermedia Corp has reported a slightly worse-than-expected third-quarter net loss. The loss for the quarter amounted to $1.9m, or $0.23 per share, including a $1.0m income tax benefit. Without the benefit the loss amounted to $0.35 per share, when First Call expected only $0.33. Net income a year ago was $513,000, or $0.06 per share. The poor showing was largely due to the fact that the company didn’t have a show during the quarter, while the year-ago quarter included revenue from Spring Internet World, held this year during Q2. As a result, revenue for the quarter fell 46% to $6.3m. Nine-month net income was $3.7m, or $0.42 per share, on revenue up 81% at $44.3m, up from a loss of $2.0m last year. The solid nine-month results are due to the success of Fall Internet World 1996 and Spring Internet World 1997. Publications revenue for the period increased by $3.9m, or 35% over the same period a year ago.
