For those that had forgotten, Santa Clara-based Sequel Inc, the company that is taking over all rights to Maxtor Corp’s mature XT-1000, XT-2000 and XT-4000 5.25 disk drives (CI No 1,884) is the buyout from Unisys Corp of the old Memorex big disk drive manufacturing plant and maintenance operations in Santa Clara: Sequel claims to be the largest independent disk drive support company in the world and focuses on end-of-life support for a wide range of disk drives from 20Mb 5.25 drives up through 2.6Gb 14 head-disk assemblies, and offers those products to a wide range of OEM and end user customers; it is also the exclusive source of Unisys 14 HDAs, Ibis Systems HDAs and large Priam disk drives; Sequel has paid Maxtor an undisclosed amount for licences, the inventory and production assets and will pay royalties based on future sales and service it performs; Maxtor wants to free the space for newer disks.
