Capital Cities-ABC Inc, New York owner of the ABC television network, is teaming with Eon Corp to develop interactive television products and services to be offered during ABC’s networked shows. Reston Virginia-based Eon has developed a process for companies such as Dominos Pizza and Barnes & Noble book stores to offer products through interactive television using the forthcoming $700 Hewlett-Packard Co set-top controller. The idea is that while a musician is being interviewed after performing a song from the latest album, an icon appears on the screen asking if the viewer wants to buy the record, and the viewer responds using the remote control. Eon says it hopes to team up with winners of auctions for the bands on the radio spectrum that the Federal Communications Commission has just allocated for interactive applications in the nine largest American cities.
