Software Publishing Corp has announced version 2.0 of Superbase, a Windows design and development tool for databases. The Santa Clara, California-based company says that enhancements include an improved Windows-compliant user interface, new visual design tools for rapid application development, extensions to the Super Basic Language and additional communication options. The interface includes new menu and dialogue options, and an icon bar enables switching between open files, indexes and views, including an editable spreadsheet-style table view. New visual development tools include an icon-driven Query by Example interface, a Quick Report generator and a Report Designer for the point-and-click design. Design tools such as the Form and Report Designers also generate Super Basic Language procedural code, enabling developers to re-use and modify objects in programmed applications. The language includes new syntax for procedures, user-defined functions and event-handling and the Program Editor supports simultaneous editing of multiple program segments, with optional point-and-click selection of keywords, field names and other expressions; other enhancements include direct dBase read-write and Paradox import-export. Version 2.0 also supports new binary large object and Windows Object Linking and Embedding, the Windows Media Control Interface and is said to be Windows Pen-aware – whatever that is.
