Pixel Semiconductor Inc, the Plano, Texas-based subsidiary of Cirrus Logic Inc, has introduced the CL-PX2070 Digital Video Processor and CL-PX2080 MediaDAC chip. The two integrated cir-uits process and display multiple streams of full-motion video for personal computer and video teleconferencing applications. The CL-PX2070 and CL-PX2080 hold information in digital format enabling users to to add and overlay graphics and text, video in sequences, edit between single or multiple streams of video, and to display this data in multiple windows in real time. The CL-PX2070 enables the capture, storage, processing, and routing of multiple independent streams of full-motion video. It can receive different data types from video devices and from the host system through either an AT or Micro Channel bus. It supports a variety of data formats which enables it to receive data from many sources. With memory capacity of up to 8Mb of dynamic or video RAM, the CL-PX2070 stores multiple sources of data for editing applications, while bi-directional data paths and format conversion capabilities enable it to send video or graphics data simultaneously to connected inputoutput devices. It supports video filtering and scaling functions for mapping video to a particular window size or to the format required by an inputoutput device. During scaling, interpolation filters operate to create substitute pixels and to remove noise and redundant data. The CL-PX2080 mixes and simultaneously displays graphics with multiple independent streams of live video, the company says. Interfacing with the video memory of the CL-PX2070 via its live video port, the CL-PX2080 provides multiple viewports into the video memory, and displays the contents on screen. The chip supports up to four live video windows, merging the contents of the video windows with the output of the system graphics controller connected to its graphics port. The windows can be mixed and overlaid with an infinite number of windows generated by the system graphics controller. The CL-PX2070 Digital Video Processor and CL-PX2080 MediaDAC chip both come packaged in 160-pin plastic quad flat packs and evaluation samples of both devices will be available from Cirrus Logic in October. Volume production is planned for the first quarter of 1993. The CL-PX2070 will cost $85 in quantities of 1,000 and the CL-PX2080 is $65.
