Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, has added cloud-based backup capabilities to its Canvio 3.0 portable hard disk drive (HDD) line.
The enhanced HDD provides storage capacities of 500GB, 750GB or 1TB.
The new Canvio 3.0 features include: plug-and-play operation; pre-loaded backup software and is compatible with personal computers and other devices equipped with USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 ports, the company claimed.
The Canvio 3.0 drives come pre-loaded with Windows-based NTI BackupNow EZ software that provides customisable backup capabilities to the cloud and to the drive, said Toshiba.
The company added that users can backup specific folders, certain file types, and conduct a complete system backup to the Canvio 3.0 into the cloud account created with NTI BackupNow EZ software. The backup software scans the user’s system and files and recommends which files to backup to cloud-based or on-device storage.
Canvio 3.0 also offers password protection with up to 256-bit data encryption and an on-screen Drive Space Alert monitor that sends alerts when storage space is running low, said the company.
Toshiba America Information Systems HDD retail products vice-president Maciek Brzeski said
HDDs with cloud-based backup capabilities offer consumers a digital safety net against system failure.
"With cloud-based backup, Canvio 3.0 offers consumers a simple and easy backup solution for all types of digital files that need reliable storage," added Brzeski.
