Those that believed that the rush to get into facilities management by major computer manufacturers like IBM Corp and Digital Equipment Corp would turn out to be a bed of nails for them seem to be vindicated by the news that 11 former Eastman Kodak Co employees are suing DEC and Kodak, seeking $5m damages apiece from each, alleging that Kodak unfairly pressured them into joining DEC and that it misled them about its benefit plan. They say they were told they would keep the same jobs and titles at DEC while getting at least comparable benefits, but that they in fact lost responsilities; they say that DEC is also dissatisfied with the Telstar alliance with Kodak under which it runs the film maker’s telecommunications – thereby putting their jobs in jeopardy.
