NEC Corp and its US personal computer affiliate Packard Bell NEC Inc have formed a unit to sell personal computers to the DOS/V standard in Japan. The new company, Packard Bell NEC Japan KK, will sell PB-NEC brand desktop and notebook computers developed by the US parent, a joint venture set up earlier this year by Packard Bell, Zenith Data Systems, and NEC. The new firm, capitalized at $1.8m, aims to sell a total of 40,000 personal computers in the initial year to March 31 1997, and 150,000 the second year. NEC will continue with its PC-9800 series of machines that are incompatible with the DOS/V norm.
