3Com Corp, Cabletron Systems Inc, CrossComm Corp and Hewlett-Packard Co have announced agreements to license London-based Data Connection Ltd’s portable Data Link Switching software, SNAP-DLSw. SNAP-DLSw is a portable source code implementation of the Data Link Switching protocols written in C. It can run stand-alone or in conjunction with SNAP APPN, Data Connection’s Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking node-to-node software, enabling SNAP APPN direct access to TCP/IP networks. SNAP-DLSw can use the same interfaces as SNAP APPN for system-specific facilities which the company claims this makes it easy for OEM vendors to convert SNAP APPN to SNAP-DLSw and vice versa. No terms were announced.
