Cable & Wireless Plc yesterday re-launched its international business services with the simultaneous broadcast around the world of a commercial. The company created Cable & Wireless Business Networks 18 months ago as a single source for business service, but kept pretty quiet about it until now; apparently, the company was getting staff numbers and expertise up to scratch. With the new campaign, according to chief executive James Ross, Cable & Wireless is targeting the world’s top 2,500 multinationals in the areas of finance, petrochemicals, travel, information technology, pharmaceuticals, information services, logistics and process engineering. The company currently has 8% of the international network services market, and ranks fifth, after AT&T Corp, British Telecommunications Plc, MCI Communications Inc and Sprint Corp. A range of services are handled by the division, from basic phone service to Frame Relay. According to Ross, Cable & Wireless has also started experimenting with an Asynchronous Transfer Mode service connecting the Far East, Europe and North America.
