Compaq Computer Corp has announced its next generation server, the Compaq ProSignia 500 at Comdex/Fall. It has a 90MHz Pentium microprocessor that uses the company’s TriFlex/Periperhal Component Interconnect architecture is claimed to optimise the performances of a personal computer server’s input-output, processor and memory into three separate high bandwidth buses, and enables input-output devices and system processors to access memory simultaneously. Other features include a 256Kb second-level cache; integrated 32-bit Ethernet Network Interface Card on the Periperhal Component Interconnect bus; Peripheral Component Interconnect-based integrated 32-Bit Fast-Small Computer System Interface-2/P Controller; support for up to seven 2.1Gb Fast-Small Computer System Interface-2 hard drives internally for more capacity than the original ProSignia; a modular design to enable users to upgrade to newer boards in the future; and hard drive configurations, including a Model 1, 1050, 2100, and 2100A. ProSignia 500 prices start from $5,400.
