With all the additional investment in the state from the likes of Fujitsu Ltd, Intel Corp and LSI Logic Inc, ancillary suppliers are rushing to Oregon to meet the anticipated extra demand – which in turn leads to plenty more investment and employment in the state. Mitsubishi Materials Corp announced that it will construct a plant in Oregon to manufacture raw silicon wafers, primarily for the fabrication of 64M-bit dynamic random-access memory chips. The Japanese company says it will invest around $71m, and plans for the plant to start operations in January 1997. A Mitsubishi Materials manufacturing unit in California will start construction of the plant in October, the firm said.
