Panasonic has launched its second generation, fully rugged tablet PC ‘Toughbook CF-H2’, which is designed specifically for health workers.

The new toughbook is a lightweight, water-resistant, shock and drop-tolerant and easily disinfected tablet device that meets the highest demands for mobility and networking within clinical environments.

It allows doctors and nursing staff instant access to medical records at the point of care, and accurate documentation on patient conditions and medication.

The Toughbook CF-H2 features latest Intel CoreTM i5-2557M (1.7GHz) Ultra Low Voltage processor with vProTM and the Intel® HD 3000 graphics, which all improves its performance by more than 400% over its CF-H1 predecessor.

The tablet PC comes with a standard RAM of 2 gigabyte, and can be upgraded to 6 gigabyte. It features a 160 gigabyte hard disk drive as standard with 128 gigabyte SSD as an option.

The CF-H2 has also been designed for easy disinfection, maintains its fanless design, limiting the opportunity for germs to be transported by the device, and features sealed buttons and no exposed ports.

The company claims that exterior of the laptop can withstand frequent alcohol wipes. It also features a Panasonic-designed software utility that reminds users to wipe the unit down at defined intervals.

The CF-H2 features a USB 2.0, LAN and serial port (optional 2nd USB 2.0 port in lieu of LAN port) available directly integrated within the device.

The Toughbook CF-H2 offers WLAN, 3G (optional), Bluetooth and GPS (optional) for navigation and job scheduling to help medical workers always stay connected on the move.

The new tablet PC can operate for up to 6.5 hours (MobileMark 2007, 60nit) running on Windows 7 by using the hot swappable, high-capacity twin-batteries developed internally by the Panasonic battery division.
