Hewlett-Packard Co reckons that the time is ripe for colour printing in the office, and that it can now get the price right too. Yesterday it added the Deskjet 1600 inkjet printer line, consisting of the 1600C for Windows and MS-DOS at $1,400 and the 1600CM for the Macintosh at $2,000.The 1600CM model is equipped with an HP JetDirect network print board, Adobe Systems Inc’s PostScript Level 2, and additional memory to handle the Macintosh and mixed network environments. The printers do colour at up to four pages per minute, monochrome at up to nine, double the speed of the existing 1200C. The company makes the things at its big plant in Barcelona, and they have been shipping in Europe for a month or two; the new printers are available immediately in the US.
