Storage Technology Corp chief executive Ryal Poppa told analysts that the company’s proposed acquisition of Network Systems Corp will begin to contribute to earnings in 1995: the Enterprise Routing Switch under development by Network Systems and Northern Telecom Ltd will be available in the first quarter of 1995, and is pitched at what Poppa reckons to be a $2,500m market currently dominated by Cisco Systems Inc and Wellfleet Communications Inc – the Asynchronous Transfer Mode Enterprise Routing Switch is a backbone networking switch that will interconnect mainframes to other systems in a network and will also be able to consolidate speech, data, image and video traffic into a single enterprise network; StorageTek and Network Systems were already working together on Chameleon, a product that will attach data storage devices to an enterprise network and it will be ready to ship next quarter, Poppa said.
