ACER TO USE AMD 80/40MHz CHIP

Advanced Micro Devices Inc has an 80MHz/40MHz Am486DX2 processor pin-compatible with Intel Corp’s 80486 chips, and Acer Inc is to use the chip in desktops: the chip is $266 in 1,000-unit quantities; next quarter, a 100MHz/40MHz Am486 is planned by the Sunnyvale company.
