SuperMac Technology Inc, Sunnyvale announced SpigotPower AV, a digital-video JPEG compression board for Macintosh Quadra 660AV and 840AV and the Power Macintosh 7100AV and 8100AV. Users can create QuickTime videos in-house, and develop CD-ROM titles and edit corporate videotapes. It enhances on-board audio and video capture to give full-screen, full-motion playback at up to 60 fields per second, the firm says. It can capture detailed images at 24 bits per pixel, and its 30 frames-per-second playback capability is claimed to be smoother and faster than on the AV alone. It is compatible with widely-used QuickTime applications including QuickTime 2.0. It plays back full-screen NTSC video at 640 by 480 resolution and up to 30 frames (60 fields) per second. It will be out in late August for under $1,000.
