Amdahl Corp’s Antares Alliance Group joint venture with Electronic Data Systems Corp has won Hewlett-Packard Co’s endorsement for the Huron applications environment, and Helwett will promote the Huron enterprise-wide client-server software to its customers and resellers as a means of bringing mainframe applications down to Unix systems. The move coincides with Antares Alliance announcing immediate availability of Huron 2.0 for HP-UX servers and workstations. Antares claims that Huron enables mainframe users to minimise the risks of moving critical applications off the mainframe to a distributed open computing environment incrementally, without having to recreate them from scratch. Huron provides an applications development and execution environment that enables organisations to redevelop old applications selectively.Huron 2.0 already supports MVS, Solaris and AIX. Amdahl has 80% of Antares Alliance.
