Enterprise software offerings provider SAP has introduced the SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On application for increased protection of customer data across applications.
SAP said it has utilised the assets of SECUDE, which it acquired in February 2011, to develop the software.
By providing single sign-on capabilities to SAP and non-SAP systems as well as strong communication encryption, SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On addresses the risk created by the simplification or overuse of a single password to enter into several software systems.
With the new application, users of SAP system can now enter one secure user name and password to gain access to multiple SAP applications, the company said.
Authentification methods of third-party vendors, including smart cards, and single sign-on capabilities for Web applications based on open standards like certificates and security assertion markup language (SAML) is supported by the new application.
Integration of third-party software and the setup of cross company scenarios are also allowed under standards of the new application.
SAP senior vice president of NetWeaver Products Sanjay Chilkarmane said they have been using this technology at SAP internally for several years, and it has proven itself as an intuitive, key component of their IT security system.
"By offering this important additional layer of security to our SAP NetWeaver customers, we can help ensure the safety of their systems with added convenience," Chilkarmane said.
