San Jose-based Chips & Technologies Inc is promising the industry’s first video graphics controller chips to bring full motion video capabilities to notebook computers. The HiQVideo series of 64-bit controllers is designed to provide full screen video at 30 frames per second for multimedia presentations, video conferencing, television-within-a-window, games and other applications. The chip combines video acceleration with a high-performance graphics engine to eliminate the performance gap between desktops and portables in terms of graphics and video performance. The first two products of the HiQVideo series are the HiQV32 and HiQV64, the former at $35 in 10,000 and up quantities. Samples are available now and production is set for next month. The HiQV64 adds a 64-bit memory interface and support for 4Mb memory. Pricing will be $40 for 10,000-up and samples will be available next month with volume following on in the first quarter.
