Megabyte Computers SA has opened what is for Spain a new style of computer store, where the emphasis is on testing products and having fun before opting to buy them. The 27,000 square foot store, clearly following trends set in other European countries, combines a wide range of consumer products with a cafe and the opportunity to surf the Internet. MegaByte CompuStore hopes to bridge the gap between the more impersonal computing departments in large stores and the smaller shops that specialise in a particular product or service area. The store claims that it will not be tied to any particular manufacturers or models, and offers presentations of new products, an introduction to virtual reality and laser printing services. Further Catalonian stores are in the pipeline, Megabyte says.
