Acer Inc is forecasting that its big US operations will turn a profit this year for the first time: the Taiwanese company’s chairman, Stan Shih, told Dow Jones & Co that Acer America unit expects to just more than break even now that Acer’s personal computers this year have become one of the 10 largest-selling computer brands in the US; sales in the first half were about $350m and should hit $730m for the year, out of $2,850m worldwide.
