Motorola Inc has announced that it is to invest some $8m in siting in Madrid what will be its only world center for the development of advanced networks, Computerworld Espana reports. The company’s corporate president, Christopher Galvin declared: This is the next stage in our investment plan drawn up for Spain. This center will not only cover the needs of the Spanish market, but also supply this technology worldwide. Some 80 staff will be based at the center, although this figure may change , depending on the global development of the cellular telephony market. The center will serve as a strategic focus of support for Motorola’s engineering units in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as some regions of Asia, and its main are a of responsibility will be the continued development of the firm’s microcellular technology, which is employed in mobile communication networks. Motorola Espana SA recorded sales of $507.8m for 1995.
