US firm ViewSonic and Taiwan’s Shuttle have unveiled new tablet computers in Taipei ahead of the Computex Taipei fair, Asia’s biggest IT trade.

California-based ViewSonic showed off ViewPad 10 Pro, a tablet which it claims is the first device to have both Windows 7 and Google’s Android platforms.

ViewSonic product manager Kai Wang told AFP, "While iPad users are aimed for entertainment, our new machine has functions more than that."

The ViewPad 10 Pro, weighing around 830 grams, will hit the Taiwan market in June. It will be priced at $799.

Meanwhile, the tablet that Shuttle unveiled weighs 650 grams and priced at $200.

The company said the Shuttle V08 has anti-dust and waterproof and targets the student market.

Shuttle manager Donald Chen said, "It’s true iPad is popular, but it is impossible for Apple to take the world’s entire tablet market. There is still room for some tailor-made tablet developers."

"Can you see how big the market will be as long as competitors can grab up to a 30 percent share of the global tablet market?" Chen said.
