Multimedia chip development company Videologic Plc has added NEC Corp to the roster of blue chip companies signing up for its video compression technology – which already includes IBM Corp and Compaq Computer Corp. The Kings Langley, Hertfortshire company says the deal with NEC will mean joint development of three-dimensional games and virtual reality systems which NEC will sell worldwide. NEC will also distribute Videologic’s personal computer multimedia products. The company says the NEC deal on its new PowerVR games system and NEC distribution of its multimedia board products in Japan completed its strategy of achieving a significant presence in each of the world’s main markets – the US, Europe and Japan. It is was talking to US graphics businesses about licensing its VESA media channel technology, and with a European company to integrate it into video devices such as television encoders.
