In an interesting tale of Russian perceptions of foreign products, Mediann of Moscow has switched to using Philips monitors for the computers it assembles the Khrunichev aerospace and defence industry enterprise. Earlier Mediann used monitors from AOC of Taiwan, but after the company proudly announced that it had opened a new plant in mainland China, Mediann assumed there would be a decline in quality decided to change supplier. Mediann now also uses Philips CD-ROM drives in multimedia versions of its computers. The assembly operation has been active since 1991 and last year 2,500 computers was assembled. The company’s total turnover in 1993 was $10m.
