Cirrus Logic Inc has three new products for desktop and portable computers, the CL-GD5440, the CL-PX4072 and the CL-GD7542, providing benefits via hardware enhancements such as full-screen, true-colour, 30 frames-per-second video playback. The CL-GD7542 provides desk-top quality video playback on the portable personal computer and is also optimised to support the larger 800 by 600 screen sizes being designed into high-end portable computers. The CL-GD5440 provides hardware accelerated video playback from a CD-ROM or hard disk. The third product in the introduction, the CL-PX4072, provides a direct interconnect between a live television source and the computer. This enables television quality video on the personal computer. The CL-GD7542 is available now. Sampling prices are $45 with production pricing set at $40 in 1,000-up quantities. The CL-GD5440 will begin sampling in the fourth quarter at $35 and on mass in the first quarter of 1995 at $30 in 1,000-up quantities. The CL-PX4072 will sample in the fourth quarter at $45 with mass production in the first quarter of 1995. Production price is $35 in 1,000-up quantities.
