Compaq Computer Corp yesterday announced a new Contura 400 family to put some distance between its own notebooks and the mass of others out there. The new family includes two 80486DX2/40-based colour models, one active matrix, the other advanced passive matrix. They have two PCMCIA slots, 4Mb memory upgradable to 20Mb, and they feature a PowerBook-type wrist-rest with centre-mounted matte trackball just below the space bar. Weighing 5.9 lbs and a new keyboard tilt provides a four-degree angle to make typing easier and more comfortable. US prices go from $2,600 to $3,300.
