Two former Apple engineers Kimon Tsinteris and Mike Matas have published former US vice-president Al Gore’s Our Choice in a new format using Apple’s iOS Cocoa Touch, which they claim, will redefine the ebook.
According to Push Pop Press, a company set up by the former Apple employees, the app version of Gore’s 2009 book about global warming "will change the way we read books."
Among the new features the ebook has are high quality photography, interactive graphics, geolocated photos and animations. It also has a narration from Gore himself and a video.
The Push Pop Press publishing platform "opens doors to telling a story with more photos, more videos and interactions," Matas told Wired magazine.
The apps has been designed to optimise all the features available in the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, including touchscreen gestures and intuitive pinch gestures.
The company intends to serve as a publishing platform for authors. "The app is the richest form of storytelling," Matas said.
Gore, who is a member of Apple’s board of directors, penned "Our Choice" as a sequel to "Inconvenient Truth" on climate change.
