The Norwood, Massachusetts-based Magnalink Communications division of Telco Systems Inc is shipping Release 2.2 of the software for its synchronous data compression product, the Series 5000 local network-wide area network Optimizer. The new version is said to add Wide Area Networks communications and enhanced management capabilities. Specifically, the company has added V.25bis dialling; this enables the product to be used over Integrated Services Digital Networks and adds Telnet remote management support and password security. In addition, the company has incorporated channel prioritisation for dual-port Optimizer configurations, enabling time-sensitive traffic such as Systems Network Architecture, Digital Equipment Corp LAT and Novell Inc Internet Package Exchange to access Wide Area Networks bandwidth ahead of the traffic on the other port. No word on the pricing yet.
