China’s electronics industry, ranking ninth in the world, is expected to grow at 22% to 25% a year, Reuter reports: China expects its electronics and semiconductor output to account for 10% and 0.5% respectively of Gross National Product by 2000, said the deputy minister of electronics industry; by 2000, electronics exports will account for 11% of total exports, with its share of the world market reaching 3.5%, he said; China’s electronics market, growing at 25% a year, is expected to become a $80,500m market at the end of this decade; by 2000, China hopes to have three to five electronics firms with annual sales exceeding $1,100m; the ratio of software and information services to hardware output is targeted at 3:7; target per capita output in the electronics industry is $6,900.
