Matsushita Electric Industrial Ltd has signed up with the Kodak Japan Ltd arm of Eastman Kodak Co to add Photo-CD capabilities to the next generation of its 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, to be launched in Japan in March as the Panasonic REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. The facility will enable users to get their photographs professionally stored on optical disk, and will then be avle to display them on the Multiplayer. The Multiplayer will be sold in Japan from March 20 at the equivalent of $700 and Matsushita plans to pro-duce 50,000 of the 32-bit machines per month. The Mulitplayers were launched in the US in October, but the Photo-CD capabilities will be limited to machines sold in Japan.
