Google has been asked by a Paris court to pay EUR 430,000 in compensation to a group of filmmakers for infringing their copyrights.

Film producer Mondovino along with documentary makers and photographers had filed a case saying that their videos were continued to be shown on Google through its search engine and Google Video, despite their demands that Google stop doing that.

The court found Google guilty of four counts of copyright infringement. AFP reports in all four cases Google was condemned for "acts of breach of copyright."

The search engine company must now pay around EUR430,000 ($598,000) in damages and interest to the plaintiffs along with the legal costs.

Google may appeal the ruling.

The search engine company is also fighting a Belgian ruling blocking it from publishing links to local newspapers on its news service. In another case, it is fighting a lawsuit in which the newspapers demand about EUR49.1m for the period in which their content was visible.
