Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire and San Jose, California-based Madge Networks Inc has announced TrueView Ring Manager, a module for its TrueView management system. The product is designed to manage the physical Token Ring network, including Madge’s range of hubs, bridges, routers and switches. Madge has brought the products – including the SmartCAU Plus, SmartLAM, Smart Ringbridge, its forthcoming Token Ring switch, and the SmartRAM – together under the Madge Stack name and says that the Ring Manager can also be used to manage third-party devices with OpenView for Windows, and Novell Inc’s NetWare Management System. Trueview Ring Manager consists of CAU Manager, Bridge Manager, Alert Manager, Workstation Manager and Workstation Manager Smart Agent modules, and uses RMON-compliant Advanced Agent software, located either in the SmartCAU, SmartCAU Plus or SmartRAM, to provide network statistics and management information, says the company. Versions for OpenView for Windows and Novell NMS, Network Management System, are due to ship during this quarter, with versions for OpenView for Unix and IBM Corp NetView/AIX following at a later unspecified time. The system is to cost $3,500, and the company is also selling the Advanced Agent on a per-device licence basis – it says that only one device is needed per ring – for $600.
