Mountain View, California-based Adobe Systems Inc has released Adobe Premiere Version 4.0 for Windows, an upgrade of its digital video production application. It provides more creative power with features such as titling, motion control and custom filters and transitions. The new release also offers support for capturing and making movies at 30 frames per second. It comes standard with a Deluxe CD-ROM and includes Adobe PhotoShop 2.5 LE software and Adobe Acrobat Reader software. It supports subpixel processing for smooth motion as well as EDL formats CMX 3400, CMX 3600 and Generic, Grass Valley and Sony BVE EDL formats. Other formats can be added as plug-in extensions. Other new features include an enhanced Project window with folders and labels for organising clips, an improved Clip window with frame-by-frame control and playback from in and out points; new transition effects, including a Transition Factory to create unlimited custom effects; new filters, plus a Filter Factory to create unlimited custom filters. Minimum system requirements include 80386-based computer with 8Mb RAM and a 100Mb hard drive running Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 5.0. In addition, a 256-colour display adaptor and monitor and mouse or other pointing device are required. For optimal performance, Adobe recommends a 66MHz or greater 80486 with 16Mb to 32Mb RAM and a 500Mb to 1Gb hard drive running Windows 3.1 or greater and MS-DOS 5.0 or greater. Adobe Premiere 4.0 for Windows is out now and will cost $700. Users of Adobe Premiere 1.0 or 1.1 can upgrade for $180.
