Lotus Development Corp, Cambridge, Massachusetts has furthered its commitment to multimedia by launching a multimedia version of its 1-2-3 Release 4 spreadsheet package. The previous multimedia product, Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows edition 1.1 with Multimedia Smarthelp, offered animated tutorials on the personal computer and the ability to embed video clips on high-end Apple Computer Inc Macintoshes. The latest version is designed to embed video on the personal computer and includes features such as a multimedia file previewer, a sound annotator and an audio proofreader. The package, which has been designed with an emphasis on training, also includes a feature called Smartcam, which enables users to record macros visually as files that can be played back to learners later on. Smartcam can also be used to embed multimedia files. Shipping now in the US, the product costs $500, with upgrades from competitive spreadsheets at $130.
