Virtuality Plc, the Leicester-based company that brings immersive virtual reality to amusement arcades, has launched its second generation machine, the Virtuality Series 2000. Strong neck muscles are no longer a pre-requisite since the visors now weigh 1 lb 7 oz, compared with 6 lbs 10 oz previously. The company has also improved the three-dimensional rendered graphics and sound and has developed three new games including the alarming-sounding Virtual Boxing. Most important, the company says the new boxes are much cheaper to make and is passing some of these saving to the arcade operators so that the new machines are 25% cheaper. They start from around 20,000 for a single, un-networked model.
