Sony has chosen web browser company Opera Software to deliver interactive components for its home connected HD TVs and Blue-ray disc players.
The web browser company said it will offer the Opera Devices Software Developer Kit (SDK) to create web-standards-based solutions and for developing full web browsers and user interfaces for Sony’s HDTV and Blu-ray player.
It added that it is enabling the delivery of web applications, widgets, full web browsing and emerging protocols such as HTML5, HbbTV(Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) and OIPF(Open Internet Protocol television).
By using Opera’s browser, users of Sony’s HDTV Bravia and Blu-ray players can reduce the number of devices to access the web when watching TV on a big screen.
Opera chief development officer Christen Krogh said its ability to address key hybrid broadcast-broadband initiatives in numerous markets has made the Japanese electronics maker to opt for it.
