HP has filed a lawsuit against optical disc drive makers including Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Panasonic and others for fixing prices.

The company has filed two complaints in a federal court in Houston claiming that the disc drive makers shared confidential information and rigged bids to "fix, raise, stabilise and maintain prices" of the disc drives which it bought between 2004 to 2010.

HP alleged in its two 65-page lawsuits that the disc drive makers controlled 90% of the market and the market generated about $45bn in revenue between 2004 to 2008.

One of the lawsuit cited by Bloomberg said, "Many of the defendants and their co-conspirators have a long history of collusion; have been involved in antitrust investigations into other technology-related products; and/or have admitted to participating in anticompetitive cartels involving technology-related or other products."

HP seeks unspecified amount of damages for the ‘conspiracy’ in contravention of the federal antitrust laws.
