Systems management software company Halcyon Software has announced the availability of an updated version of Systems Operations Suite, a monitoring and automated operations solution for IBM i.
In addition to providing full visibility of messages and alerts generated by IBM i systems, this new release adds new features that claim to give even tighter control of mission-critical applications and business processes.
According to Carole Chandler, sales and marketing director of Halcyon Software: "Systems Operations Suite 5.0 has been developed in response to feedback from the Halcyon User Group to ensure that it continues to meet their evolving technical and business needs. It provides even higher levels of automation enabling organisations to achieve significant improvements in efficiency, productivity and service delivery without requiring additional manpower resources."
A new Object Monitor module can be used to check any object within the IBM i environment and allows Journal Receivers to be ‘quickly and easily’ located and deleted based on age or when they were last used. Business rules can also be set to automatically delete Journal Receivers after a certain period of time to free up large volumes of valuable disk space.
Halycon say that the Systems Operations Suite 5.0 now provides higher levels of security protection by automating the monitoring of the IBM Audit Journal, sending real-time alerts whenever system values are changed or new entries are written.
Furthermore, if pre-configured system thresholds should be breached, automatic alerts can be sent to authorised staff by email or SMS and viewed on the Halcyon Enterprise Console.
A free ‘app’ is available for Apple and Android smartphones or tablets, providing a portable view of the console that enables IT staff to manage critical applications, processes and SNMP devices. ERP software and other core business applications can also be proactively monitored including Infor (M3 and Movex), Infor XA, System21, SAP, JD Edwards, Misys and High Availability solutions.
