Cloud computing technology provider Egnyte has updated its solution, allowing users to share sensitive files without risks of privacy and security.
Storage Connect allows users to access on-premise or cloud-based files from any mobile device, browser or desktop without the need for a virtual private network (VPN).
Egnyte said users would be able to run their business without of fear of security or privacy risks such as government monitoring.
Storage Connect should also enable users to reduce latency by syncing the same storage devices across different offices.
Gartner analyst Monica Basso said: "Personal cloud services represent a serious security and compliance threat for most IT organisations, enabling employees to easily share corporate documents with third parties, completely outside IT’s control."
Egnyte also released a risk assessment, the PRISM Prevention Program, which enables companies to detect how many files are stored locally and on the cloud.
The releases follow a recent IDG study that found 60% of companies believed that file sharing on the cloud had compromised their data security.
Vineet Jain, CEO at Egnyte, said: "Whether due to concerns about privacy, security, intellectual property, or M&A, businesses want a to combine the simplicity and ease of use associated with cloud-file sharing with the security and privacy of their own infrastructure," said
"Our PRISM Protection Program provides business with everything they need to detect cloud-only file sharing services that introduce risk into their company. It also offers a simple yet secure way of accessing and sharing those files from their existing infrastructure that are too sensitive to be shared via the cloud."
