Asustek, a manufacturer of computer products, has unveiled its Eee line of tablet computers on the eve of Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Taiwanese company has come out with four new tablet devices, which include the Eee Pad Transformer, the 10.1-inch Eee Pad Slider, the 7.1 inch Eee Pad Memo and the 12.1-inch Eee Slate.
Priced between $999 and $1,099, the Eee Slate will be the first in the line to be introduced in stores in January. The device powered by Intel’s Core i5 dual core processor runs on Windows 7 and comes with a LED display.
The other three Android-based tablets are expected to be rolled out in the first half of 2011.
Priced bewteen $399 and $699, the Eee Pad transformer, an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, makes use of a docking station to transform the tablet into a laptop computer and prolongs battery life.
The Eee Pad Slider similar to Transformer comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard instead of the docking station option, and will be priced between $499 and $799 and would be available in May.
The Eee Pad Memo powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile processor is enabled with high- definition playback and comes with a stylus for taking handwritten notes. It will be available in June at a price between $499 and $699.
Asustek is hoping to break into the upcoming tablet market with the new device. The company said it hopes to take a double-digit share of the non-iPad tablet business this year.
