Google employees could enjoy use of a rooftop swimming pool and running track after the search engine won final approval for its £650m new headquarters in London.
The Internet giant secured approval from Camden Borough Council for the plans, which propose a 920,000ft2 building next to King’s Cross station.
The building, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, will have a swimming pool and a running track on the roof, which can fit up to 5,000 workers. Employees will also be able to use a gym, an audio-visual studio, events centre, auditorium and a multi games area.
The California-based company is expected to start construction at the end of this year, with a completion date in late 2016.
Back in June, Simon Allford, director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, said: "This building is underpinned by cutting edge design intelligence and technologies to provide a sophisticated twenty first century working environment for Google’s staff.
"The architectural approach, which has taken inspiration from King’s Cross and St Pancras International railway stations, complements the local area’s strong industrial heritage and will be a building London can be proud of."
The building, which is made up of steel framing and timber panels, will be seven to 11 stories high.
