The ‘Employees Tell the Truth About Your Company’s Data’ report of 3,000 employees around the world found that 45% of European, 40% of Middle Eastern and 66% of American employees feared the loss of personal data from their employer.
And 34% of Europeans, 35% of Middle Easterners and 51% of Americans said that their IT department had taken no steps to ensure security on their corporate files and applications on their personal devices.
Some have even taking to hiding, with 15% of European and 17% of Middle Eastern and American employees not telling their employer or IT department that they use their mobile device for work.
Another 40% of European, 41% of Middle Eastern and 36% of US employees said they would not report leaked data immediately.
Ben Gibson, CMO at Aruba Networks, said: "In short, employees resent the power their employers now wield over their personal data, but are equally unconcerned about keeping company data safe."
The research also found that when asked how they would feel if their data was accessed by their IT department, around half of users in Europe and the Middle East described their reaction as ‘angry’, while 41% in Europe, 47% in the Middle East and 46% in the US said they would feel ‘violated’.
"We are now well beyond the point of discussing Bring Your Own Device as something on the horizon. It is a reality across the world and businesses need to adopt solutions that give their employees greater privacy for their personal data as well as exert greater network controls to ensure that sensitive information is not leaked, without disrupting the user experience," said Gibson.
