Google has added its voice-controlled assistant Google Now service to iPhone and iPad, as part of an update to its existing Google Search app.

Google Now for iPhone and iPad will be available in Google’s Search app in the Apple App Store and it will compete with Apple’s Siri service which is used by Apple device users to get updates and forecasts.

Google Now was introduced in June 2012 on mobile devices powered by the search giant’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

The app, which is also available on Google Play Store for Android users, uses Google’s language search to convert spoken words to text in order to find user requests.

The company said the app presents the information on mobile devices about the day’s weather and reminds users about their work.

Google engineer Andrea Huey said Google Now will give users the right information at the right time.

"Together, Google Now and voice search will make the user’s day run a little smoother," Huey said.

Huey said that in addition to the handy cards in Google Now, the Google Search app gives the users instant answers to their questions.

Last year, Google updated its iOS search app with enhanced voice capabilities, adding a voice-recognition service that resembles Apple’s Siri personal assistant.
