Google has entered into the fitness app race with Google Fit, a free app capable of gathering health information from a wide range of wearable devices.
The app can be plugged into wearables along with other fitness apps and track fitness data using built- in sensors.
It first appeared in Android Wear smart watches like LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live, and Motorola Moto 360, which allows users to track their steps and give a history of the steps taken throughout the week, and monitor heart rate using compatible watches.
Google Fit app is compatible with tablets and web browsers, and features a dashboard that charts the activities and lets users track their progress toward a particular fitness goal.
According to reports its ability to connect to third-party apps and gadgets like RunKeeper, Polar, and Withthing will give it an advantage over Samsung’s S Health and Apple Health.
Google Fit director Sabrina Ellis said : "You can also connect your favourite fitness devices and apps like Strava, Withings, Runtastic, Runkeeper and Noom Coach to Google Fit and we’ll surface all of the relevant data in one spot, giving you a clear and complete view of your fitness.
"No need to check one app to see your weight and another to review a run – with Google Fit, that data will all be surfaced in one, simple place."
