Samsung has responded to Apple’s accusation of patent theft by stating that it did not write any of the software running on Android smartphones. It argued that Google was responsible for the software.
In US District Court in San Jose, Apple and Samsung Electronics are suing each other for patent theft. Samsung would have to pay more than $2bn if it loses, and Apple would have to pay about $6m if it loses.
Responding to the accusations, Samsung attorney Peter Quinn said that not one of the accused features on the phone was designed, much less copied, by anyone at Samsung.
"The accused features on this phone were developed independently by some of the software engineers at Google, up the road in Mountain View," Quinn said.
However, Apple’s lawyer Harold McElhinny said that it is Samsung that has made the decision to copy these features.
The trial is the latest in the long-running, worldwide series of lawsuits between Apple and Samsung over mobile devices.
Apple’s iOS smartphone operating system has been losing its market share to Android, a Google-developed smartphone operating system that now makes up about 70% of the global market.
