Apple and Samsung have returned to the federal court for another legal row that concerns smartphone and tablet patents.
The iPhone maker will this week seek more than $2bn in damages from Samsung for allegedly copying features of its iPhone as Samsung hits back at Apple’s allegations with two of its own.
Samsung lawyers said that the company has been a pioneer in the mobile device business sector from the start.
"Apple has copied many of Samsung’s innovations in its Apple iPhone, iPod, and iPad products,” lawyers added.
Google’s Android powers the Samsung devices involved and ex-Google engineer Andy Rubin, who is a potential witness in the case, is expected to propose that Google was developing the features under consideration prior to Apple’s patent filing.
In January, a US court ruled that the Samsung infringed on Apple’s auto-complete text technology, while rejecting one of the Samsung’s patent claims associated with one of its synchronisation technologies.
