Toshiba UK awarded winners of Maths in Motion winners from Butlers Court Primary School, Beaconsfield with Toshiba Encore WT8-A tablets.

The electronic maker was the lead technology sponsor of UNESCO’s Maths in Motion Challenge, which is designed to encourage children between eight to sixteen years of age to pursue careers in engineering.

The now global programme includes projects that put mathematical skills of the participants to the test.

Students were tasked to collaborate in small teams from their school to design and race a virtual car based on a specially designed portal.

The top 30 teams consisting of 15 Primary and 15 Secondary schools raced at the grand final at the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon.

Eventually, the challenge was won by a primary school for the second time in the challenge’s 15 year history.

Toshiba Northern Europe Education and Public Sector head of corporate Mark Byrne said: "This is the third year we have supported Maths in Motion, and we couldn’t be more delighted to be a part of it.

"We continue to invest significantly in the development of technology for education, but also encourage young people to embrace developing their IT, maths and engineering skills.

"We’re already looking forward to building on our support for the young talent of the future as we look ahead to the next Maths in Motion Challenge."
