Google has reportedly acquired Agawi, a technology platform firm focused on low-latency streaming of apps from the cloud to mobile devices.
The Information reported that Google secretly acquired Agawi last year as part of its strategy to increase the web usage instead of apps.
Google confirmed the acquisition in a note provided to TechCrunch. A company’s spokesperson told the tech blog:"The Agawi team has joined Google. We aren’t sharing other details."
Agawi worked with several partners including Microsoft, Marvell and NVIDIA, app publishers, and cloud service providers to provide a cloud-based platform for app streaming.
California-based Agawi was founded by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Rajat Gupta, Peter Relan and Rohan Relan.
Agawi’s website is currently not available and several Twitter accounts of the company have not been updated for two years.
The company’s technology is expected to be integrated into Google, which is planning to attract mobile app users back to the web and increase its advertising revenues.
Web searches play a significant role in Google’s revenues as the company adds advertisements to search results.
